With a total of over 1000 trad and sport routes we are very excited by the arrival of the new Rockfax North Wales Slate guide.
Famous for their technical run-out slabs and, more recently, for the wealth of sport climbing, the slate quarries of in and around Llanberis are also famous for the bizarre and spectacular rock formations that give a unique climbing environment.
This includes the major areas of the Dinorwig quarries like Vivian, the Rainbow Slab, Twll Mawr and the vast Australia area. Also covered are the quarries on the south side of Llanberis around Gideon, the Nant Peris quarries, Fachwen and Nantlle Valley.
The slate quarries near Llanberis have become one of the most popular climbing spots in North Wales for climbers looking for sport routes, or immaculate slab climbing. The development started with the slate boom of the 1980s when the area became famous for immaculate slabs of purple slate with bold run-out routes. Most of these routes are still there in their original style and many have become classics and much sought-after trad ticks. More recently the area has been developed with a multitude of super sport routes from short single pitches to huge multi-pitch extravaganzas.
The information in this guide will simultaneously be released through the Rockfax app and will become part of the North Wales Climbs package. Anyone who has previously purchased North Wales Climbs, or the 'Slate Quarries' bundle will get the full North Wales Slate guide as a free upgrade.
