Alpacas can survive in some of the most hostile environments on earth, so their wool has to provide superb insulation.Vicuna use Alpaca Wool to create the ultimate in warm, soft and durable socks for cold weather use.
Using Alpaca yarn, the Vicuna Socks are soft, warm and feel incredibly smooth against the skin. Unlike sheep wool it contains no lanolin, which means its also hypoallergenic, and alpaca fibres are much smoother, giving you a far softer feeling wool. It is the most durable animal fibre on the planet, is very breathable and provides fantastic temperature regulation (cosy and warm when its cold, and cool in warmer temperatures).
Known as the 'Wool of the Gods', Alpaca wool is sustainably and ethically farmed in the Andes, where these animals have evolved and adapted to cope with the harsh climate and altitude. They live at altitudes from 2500m to over 4500m where temperatures can vary from -20oC to +30oC in the same day.
The Alpaca Antarctica is the warmest sock in the Vicuna range and is ideal for mountaineering and cold weather hiking. It uses 100% Alpaca wool on the inside for warmth, while recycled nylon on the outside provides stability and abrasion resistance, ensuring the socks are both hardwearing and comfortable.
