Developed over the course of 3 years and refined through more than 35 prototypes. We are really pleased to introduce to you the new Tupilak range of packs by Mountain Equipment.
Mountain Equipment have done a superb job of designing, developing and refining a pack that every climber and mountaineer could ask for. Featuring exclusive, custom developed fabrics, trim and components as well as a meticulous approach to functional design, these packs are simple, lightweight and durable - climbing packs exactly the way we would want them.
The ability to move unimpeded both on the approaches and climbs themselves is perhaps the hallmark of the perfect alpine pack. The Tupilak range of packs have been constructed with a Diabolo profile, an hour glass shape that provides load stability as well as packability. Each pack is marginally wider at the base and at the top therefore improving stability and making packing in gear easier.
Lightweight, high density EVA foam used throughout the back-panel, shoulder straps and removable hip-fins provide support and comfort. The thermo-moulded hip-fins provide additional support for carrying heavy loads and can easily be removed when not required. Having had numerous staff try these packs on, we are really surprised as just how well they fit. Whether you are under 5 foot or over 6 foot, we can't quite put our finger on how Mountain Equipment have got the fit so right - and this is only having the one back length! The opening closure on the Tupilak range of packs is unique in its own right. The Grappler system is a one-handed pack closure system which features an easy to grab 'lobster tail' and pincer hook which provides a fail-safe 'grapple-lock' on to the cowl's integrated webbing spine. Clever indeed!
Of course no climbing pack comes complete without a durable face fabric, no matter how functional the pack may be. PACT fabrics have been a huge part of the three year development. Featuring PACT 300 and PACT 100, these highly densely woven fabrics feature a double rip-stop construction, a DWR face-coating and a micron TPU coating on the inside. Combined together, these fabrics result in the perfect balance of durability, low weight and weather resistance.
With simplicity and functionality in mind, the Tupilak pack comes with removable components. These include the sternum straps, shaft tethers and ice axe toggles. Saving weight and easily replaceable should they become worn or damaged. The front shock-cord system provides additional functionality for carrying items on the outside of the pack, two strong haul loops, a removable back panel, accessories pocket and an internal weather-proof cowl, with a roll-top closure helping to seal out spindrift.
The Tupilak 37 is a pack designed for climbers and mountaineers seeking simple and functional design, be it on rock, ice or mixed ground. The Tupilak range of packs have proven incredibly popular with staff and customers so far!
