Weight : 0KG

Edelrid's 9.8mm Parrot Rope sets a new standard in environmentally sensitive production as it's made with reused sheath yarns left over from production of other ropes. This also keeps production costs down, which means a lower price for you.

Because it uses upcycled surplus yarns, sheath colours are never standard and each production batch will be unique, making every Parrot rope a limited edition.

Although it uses remnant yarns, the Parrot rope is exactly like every other high quality climbing rope. It complies with all safety standards and has the same handling characteristics, just the sheath colours are a little more indidvidual.

All in all , the Edelrid Parrot 9.8mm ropes are good for your pocket, good for the planet and good for climbers of all disciplines, from novice to expert.

    Buyers Guide

EDELRID Press Release for the Parrot 9.8mm Rope

For 2016, EDELRID is launching the Parrot 9.8, a rope made with reused sheath yarns left over from production

In an upcycling process, up to 95% of highquality leftover yarns are reused. Rather than discarding them, the sheath yarns left over from standard production are used to make new ropes. This significantly reduces the amount of waste. And as the color of the leftover yarns cannot be planned in advance, each Parrot 9.8 mm production batch has a unique color mix. This means that each rope is unique. When manufacturing climbing ropes , there are two main production stages that produce leftover sheath yarns.

The first is during preparation when the sheath yarns are wound onto braiding spools. The second is after braiding the rope on the braiding machine – when the batch length has been reached, but there are still sheath yarns remaining on the spools. The Parrot 9.8 mm ensues from these two stages. EDELRID only uses leftover yarns to make this innovative rope. This is made possible by collecting the leftover yarns on a special spool in a separate process. The Parrot 9.8 mm is made in shorter batches/lots than the standard production. The Parrot 9.8 mm contains no spliced yarns* – the same as with all EDELRID ropes – i.e. the sheath is produced 100% in one piece and contains no irregularities due to splicing. This process allows to upcycle approximately 95% of leftover yarns from production to make new high-quality ropes.

This is made possible by collecting the leftover yarns on a special spool in a separate process. The Parrot 9.8 mm is made in shorter batches/lots than the standard production. This process allows to upcycle approximately 95% of leftover yarns from production to make new high-quality ropes.

The finished product comes in unusual different colored patterns – but otherwise has all the same characteristics as a ‘normal’ climbing rope. Naturally, it complies with all the applicable safety standards. As we use leftover yarns in similar lengths from our existing colors, and these production leftovers cannot be planned in advance, each batch of this rope is unique. The customer can therefore choose which color combination they prefer. Each Parrot 9.8 mm is a limited edition – one of a kind. With the Parrot 9.8 mm single rope, EDELRID is introducing upcycling to its production facilities (and as with all EDELRID climbing ropes, it meets the bluesign® criteria). And the price remains fair too. EDELRID is passing the resulting savings directly on to the customer. The 60-meter version of this eco rope will be available for 130 euros. A good eco-balance does not have to cost the earth.

*Splicing and splices involves forming unbreakable, permanent, non-separable joints between fibers, for example by intermingling using compressed air. This produces a permanent joint, for example between sheath yarns, which has no negative effect on the strength of a rope. However, splices always involve a slight thickening (literally a doubling of the material). As a result, splices can be felt in the sheath as small bulges. This also means that these splices in the sheath are the first points in a rope to get worn and the rope wears out quicker at these sections. This is why EDELRID climbing ropes are 100% splice free.

Free UK shipping is available on all orders over £25. Smaller items will be sent with Royal Mail Tracked 48 and bulkier items with Parcelforce.

If you want your items quicker, we offer a Priority Next Day Shipping option at an additional cost of £5. This is available on the checkout page. This service is for mainland UK orders (N. Ireland, Highlands & Islands excluded) and is a signed for service. In most cases we use Parcelforce Express 24 but, in some instances, we may use Royal Mail 1pm Special Delivery. You will receive an automatic tracking e-mail with a link to your parcel details.

There is also the option for Saturday Delivery at a charge of £12. This service is for UK orders only and guarantees delivery on the next Saturday morning. Orders for this service must be placed before 12pm on the Friday before. This service also requires a signature on delivery.

All items are advertised subject to availability. If we are ever out of stock of an item and cannot supply within a few days, we will e-mail or phone you. You will have the option to cancel your order, wait or accept an alternative.

We are a small retailer, and while we do have a modern EPOS system mistakes can still happen. Inevitably we may therefore occasionally sell out of an item that is still showing on the website as in stock. If we have sold out of an item, we cannot always repeat or supply future stock at the same price.

Royal Mail parcel post typically takes 3 working days (90%), as does second class letter post (98%). Over 90% of first class letters are delivered the next working day.

    Overseas Shipping Charges

Our overseas shipping and postal charges outlined in the tables are based on the following approximate weights.
