An introduction to why runners need a mobility base, before they move forward with strength work.
Runners present regularly in clinic with varied pain and injury and in many cases this could have been avoided if the individual had developed a quality mobility base. The lack of mobility at ankle, knee, hip, spine and shoulder allows for the development of an inefficient movement pattern. This then leads to altered function, the loading of other areas, muscular imbalances and the eventual pain and injury that niggles for months and can stop you running! It’s this lack of mobility and the subsequent break in the consistency of training due to the injury that can prevent you from reaching your athletic potential.
Come along and learn in a fun environment how you can identify potential problem areas. Learn simple screening techniques that allow you to identify tightness and imbalance quickly. We will introduce some simple techniques you can utilise at home to help increase mobility. We will underline why it’s necessary to have this mobility base in place before you attempt any strength work. You will learn about the performance pyramid and once this is understood you can move forward confidently into a more productive, efficient and injury free world of running.
This will be a very hands on educational and interactive fun session for all. Attend in running clothing and expect to get involved!

Brathay Young Minds Matter appeal
The number of young people struggling with mental health difficulties has more than doubled in recent years, which means providing targeted programmes to support them is a priority for Brathay.
Brathay are working to help reduce these numbers, but we need your help. Poor mental health is something that affects one in four of the population and it is increasing, especially among young people.
Nationally, the number of young people experiencing mental health problems is growing:
-
One quarter of young people in the UK experience suicidal thoughts
-
Rates of depression and anxiety in teenagers have increased by 70% in the past 25 years
-
About 25% of young people self-harm on one occasion
Every £1 donated makes a real difference, helping ensure that more young people get the support they need.
£25 pays for an hours group work
£100 trains a mentor to support a young person who has no one else
£250 provides a life changing residential in the Lake District.
