Yes, Petzl is a French company. It's a manufacturer specialising in climbing gear, caving gear, work-at-height equipment, and headlamps. The company is located in Crolles, France (near Grenoble) and was founded by cave explorer Fernand Petzl in the mid-1970s.

What is the lifespan of Petzl climbing and safety equipment? +

The lifespan depends on the material: metal products (like carabiners) have no fixed lifespan, but plastic and textile products (like harnesses and ropes) have a maximum life of ten years from the date of manufacture. Always retire any product immediately after a severe event (like a hard fall), regardless of its age. Can you wash a Petzl harness? +

You should always follow the specific instructions provided in the technical notice for each product. However, the only cleaning products that are tested and recommended by Petzl are soap and water. Never use chemical cleaners, as they can damage the compounds and fibers in plastics and textiles, compromising the integrity of your safety equipment.

What is your Returns Policy? +

If you change your mind about an online purchase, you can return any unused items (unless bespoke or hygiene protected - please see our Returns Policy) within a period of 14 days from the date on which the items were delivered for a refund. All items should be returned in the same condition that they arrived, with all labels and packaging intact and undamaged.
