The Switch Base uses Octayarn Warp-knit fabric, a highly technical material constructed from hollow, multi-lobed fibres. Its three-dimensional structure increases surface area, helping trap warm air while moving moisture away from the skin. By using Octayarn without a conventional face or lining fabric, Mountain Equipment has created a baselayer with very efficient moisture transfer and rapid drying times.
Lightweight 20D RS Nylon overlays across the shoulders add wind resistance and mechanical stretch while providing additional protection beneath pack straps. The combination of the technical Octayarn fabric and targeted shoulder panels makes the Switch Base particularly effective for active mountain use where maintaining a comfortable temperature through changing levels of exertion is essential.
A slim fit keeps the baselayer close to the body without excess fabric, making it easy to layer beneath fleece, insulation and waterproof shells. Flatlocked seams improve next-to-skin comfort, while the deep YKK® centre-front zip provides straightforward ventilation when you're working hard on steep approaches or technical pitches.
