    • Osprey Talon 22 Rucksack Review

      By chris chapman on 4
fantastic pack , extremely light and with a myriad of pockets. my only gripe is that I bought the M/L as I am over 6 foot . even so with the pack at its maximum adjustment the hip belt sits quite high around the midriff which I find a little annoying more than uncomfortable . that could just be personal preference though.

After the current winter showed up major flaws in our current gear, it was time for a new bag. Many good day packs are a bit too large for the sort of walking I do, but the Talon, at 22litres, fitted the bill. I was concerned it would be too big even then, but I filled it all too easily. In fact, it was spot on for capacity. The first outing was a quite a big one:16 miles across hill and forest, with good quantities of snow still on the ground. I took the usual food and back-ups, as well as a full change of clothing and a hydration bladder. After a prolonged fitting session, I was ready to go. For the first hour I was really fiddeling with the fit of the pack. Very soon my back was sweating too. After another hour I felt more comfortable, and by the last half of the trip I was perfectly set up. The pack is very well made. Lots of thought has gone into the talon, and the qualitys there to back that up. Once correctly set up it transfers weight well. I was able to jog, climb and jump with complete freedom. The pack is well suited to energetic activity. I found that once on, my arms never touched the sides of the pack during jumps over streams or leaping over ditches. As it maintains a width equal to the users shoulders, Id say it would make a great Lakes scrambling pack. Over all, its a great, highly functional bag. It looks very sporty in the cool dusty blue and grey colour, and its extremely well designed. The build quality seem to be top notch. Im generally delighted with the Osprey Talon.

I needed a lightweight c.20 litre rucksack for the Nokia Coast to Coast (Scotland) event in September. Although I originally liked the look of the Osprey Talon 22, at almost £70 I thought the Berghaus Freeflow 20 at £40 was better value - big mistake !!!! After buying the Berghaus and testing it, what a major disappointment and waste of £40. Im reviewing the Osprey here so it is everything the Berghaus isnt. Super lightweight frame, cool air flow system on your back, stacks of storage pockets, great design, great colours (I took Chilli Red) and sits really well with excellent design and ergonomics. You only get what you pay for and the Osprey is well worth the money - sorry Berghaus albeit yours was £30 cheaper and it shows.

The unit is well constructed and compacted. Brilliant for city tours or smaller outings. I went for the 44 as its a bigger. Both are a good choice.

The Osprey Talon 22 was recommended to me by a friend as a good all round pack. She was right! Im no expert but this is a great, lightweight pack. Very comfortable, loads of storage options (with and without a hydration pack). I use it most days as a running pack to/from work and it does the job very well. Highly recommended.

Spent hours looking at day/rucksacs and ordered with trepidation but found this sac to be excellent for long hikes. Not too large but surprised how much it took and was very comfortable. I have a bad back,am not very fit and risk averse so carry a lot of stuff. I found it great back support, particularly with the hip and chest straps. I particularly liked the fact that it was slim, but deep, as the load sat well. Thinking of adding the bladder, rather than using bottles, for the same reason. I actually now prefer to walk with than without. Liked the stretchy outer pockets -great for quich access. Nice quality and good value.

Finally found the ultimate ruc sac. It is extremely comfortable has all the features you would like and require plus more. Ilove the helmet holder and somewhere to put a light when cycling. I have used this bag for walking, cycling, snowboarding and general everyday use. Look no further this is the ideal bag with all the ideal pockets and space, adjustable back length. The hoops for pulling the zips are great when you have bulky gloves on. Buy this you will not regret it.

We purchased the Osprey Talon 22 (M/L Iris) several months ago and love it. It holds a full load comfortably both on the trail and in urban use. Fewer straps to get in the way and you can yank off the sternum strap if you desire. Overall its great for around town use and as carry-on baggage. Well thought out construction & materials, lightweight, and great service from the Climbers Shop - would highly recommend!
