The Joe Brown Shops (Est 1966) and The Climbers Shop (Est 1959)

With over 100 years of retail heritage our shops are incredibly proud to offer a huge choice of clothing and equipment for climbers, mountaineers, hillwalkers and trail runners. Our story was begun by pioneers back in the days when hemp ropes were all the rage. Today, our team are equally passionate about sharing their experience of the products we stock so you don’t have to experience the hard lessons they have already learned. To celebrate our 60th Anniversary we have joined up with our good friends at the International School of Mountaineering to offer three fantastic days with British Mountain Guides Adrian Nelhams and Max Cole. If you are looking to transfer outside from the climbing wall, would like to feel more confident setting up belays or fancy gaining the skills to scramble across more technical terrain then join us for a top quality day of knowledge and laughter in the stunning Lake District hills. Each participant will receive a small gift from our “Nuts of Legends” sponsor Scarpa as well as a £10 Climbers Shop gift voucher.

Ade (2)                                                Max Cole

Based in the Lake District, Adrian has a real breadth of knowledge and experience - and an enthusiasm and love for the mountains which has a great effect on the people who climb with him. Adrian has a wealth of international rock climbing, mountaineering and expedition experience ranging from major routes in the Mt Cook region of New Zealand, Alaska, El Capitan in the Yosemite Valley, first ascents in Kyrgyzstan, peaks in Nepal, 'grande courses' in the main alpine areas and of course many years’ spent enjoying the world class rock climbing on offer on his doorstep; the Lake District.

With many years’ experience of searching out new venues and adventures, Max has climbed in New Zealand, Yosemite, Morocco, Norway and extensively throughout the European alps and the U.K. It was his lifelong passion for adventure in the mountains that motivated him to become a British Mountain Guide to share his passion with others through his infectious enthusiasm.
