We will be playing host to the legendary, renowned alpinist Nick Bullock. Part of Mountain Equipment's Pro Team of climbers, Nick Bullock is one of Britain's finest alpinists and rock climbers, known for bold and audacious ascents, he is also a writer and occasional poet. A man who had already opted for one of life's tougher careers as a PT instructor for HM Prison Service only to give it all up, along with the regular salary and house to live in a van and pursue his passion for climbing. His appetite for climbing is as ferocious as ever. Nick is a genuine personality, that rare breed of person who understands and revels in the intricacies and emotions of climbing and mountaineering.
He has made numerous first ascents in Scottish winter, in the Greater Ranges, when trad climbing, and in the Alps. His 2016 ascent of Nyainqentangla South East via the North Buttress won him and his partner Paul Ramsden a prestigious Piolet d’Or (the ‘Oscar of mountaineering’) and worldwide commendation. Nick is one of the finest Scottish winter climbers of his generation, making exceptional first ascents such as Nevermore (X) on Lochnagar. His love for winter extends further afield where he has made ascents of numerous very technical routes in Canada, though one trip was cut short by him having to fight off a bear!
Nick’s entertaining and thoughtful writing resulted in his first book, Echoes, being released to widespread acclaim. His current book, Tides, was released earlier this year. Nick will be on hand to sign copies of his new book Tides, so be sure to buy one in store over the weekend or bring some cash to purchase one on the night itself!
It will be a very entertaining and fascinating evening and places are limited so be sure to book your ticket early. All proceeds of Nicks talk will be raising money for the BMC Access and Conservation Trust and don’t forget you can also support our partner charity: Community Action Nepal (CAN) by purchasing Nepali crafts or one of Doug Scott’s collection of unique signed mountain images that are on permanent display in our stairwell.
The Saturday's evening event is of course followed by our FREE event during the day on both Saturday and Sunday in our Stony Stratford shop, as we celebrate all things expedition.
We will have a fantastic team of expedition climbers and technical equipment experts who, along with our resident staff team of intrepid adventure travellers will be on hand both days to share stories, talk equipment and make sure you get the very best in product advice and fitting so that you can enjoy your trip to the max.
