Signed by Doug Scott
This tells the epic story of Doug Scotts journey to the roof of the world. Along with Dougal Haston, they were the first Brits to stand on the summit of Everest. Not only that, but they were the first team to conquer the ambitious SW face route, and also survived a night in a snowhole at 28, 750ft without oxygen; The highest ever bivouac. They also managed to escape frostbite despite enduring overnight temperatures of - 50oC. Scott and Haston returned home national heroes with their image splashed across the front pages. Scott went on to become one of Britain's greatest ever mountaineers, pioneering new climbs in the remotest corners of the globe.
In Up and About, the first volume of his autobiography, Scott tells his story from his birth in Nottingham during the darkest days of war to the peak of his climbing career.
Scott has established more climbs on the high mountains of the world after his ascent of Everest than he did before. These climbs will be covered in the second volume of his life and times.
Scott was made a CBE in 1994. He is former president of the Alpine Club, and in 1999 he received the Royal Geographical Society Patron's Gold Medal. In 2011 he was awarded the Piolets d'Or Lifetime Achievement award, during the presentation of which his mountaineering style was described as 'visionary'.
In 1995 he founded Community Action Nepal (CAN), whom the Climbers Shop are very pleased and proud to support. CAN's aim is to help mountaineers to support the mountain people of Nepal.
Doug Scott continues to climb, write and lecture, avidly supporting the work of CAN.
