Helmets - Petzl Sirocco
This sets a new benchmark for lightweight climbing lids. It dispenses with the tradition idea of a hard shell and instead is constructed using only closed cell foam. This means the helmet is very, very light, superbly well ventilated and ridiculously comfortable and still offers excellent impact protection, thanks to the mechanical properties of expanded polypropylene (EPP). The minimalist fabric strap also contributes to its lightness and features a new magnetic buckle which allows the chinstrap to be attached with one hand. We can vouch that this works very well and is easy to use. The Sirocco even has headtorch clips.
While possibly not the most durable climbing helmet around, the Sirocco fills a niche for elite climbers, pushing the boundaries and looking to save every gram to achieve success.

Top Tips to make the right choice:
The best helmet is the most comfortable one that fits your head. If you can’t feel it on, then it is absolutely the right one for you (and you are more likely to wear it!)
Try on as many different styles as you can. If you wear a ponytail when you climb, make sure you try your helmet on with it. If you are planning on wearing a hat underneath – make sure you try your helmet on with it. If you plan on keeping your sandwiches in between the cradle and helmet shell – errr, don’t bring them into the shop.
Wearing a brightly coloured helmet can make you quicker to find in an emergency (and looks great in the pics!)
