We have a huge range of ropes to suit all climbing disciplines and all budgets. Choosing the right rope for you can be a minefield so if in doubt don't hesitate to contact us.
Confidence ropes are thin diameter static ropes that are intended to give a nervous or inexperienced walker or mountaineer as degree of reassurance on steep or technical ground. Normally between 25 and 40 metres long, and between 8 and 10mm diameter, a confidence rope is an essential bit of kit for any mountain leader taking groups into exposed mountain terrain
Essential in any lead climbers arsenal: Tape and cord (often referred to as 'Climbing Tat') is perfect for fashioning impromptu protection for self rescue or planned abseils (8mm diameter cord or larger). You can also create prussiks knots, extenders, replace worn out slings on hexes or cams, and attach accessories to your harness.
Designed to be used as a pair of ropes, half ropes are perfect for meandering mountain Trad routes, as each rope uses different protection placements. This allows greater freedom with placements, helps reduce rope drag and gives more redundancy within the system (two's got to be safer than one, right?). Half ropes also allow full length abseils (very useful for big alpine routes or if you need to retreat from a climb). Twin ropes use very thin diameter ropes, coupled together (both using the same protection). Twin ropes are almost exclusively used for ice climbing
Single ropes are ideal for most climbing applications, but are particularly suitable for sports climbing, indoor climbing and general cragging. Generally between 12mm and 9.5mm diameter, single ropes are durable all rounders, although some lightweight sport climbing specific single ropes can be as skinny as 8.7mm. Basically the thicker the rope the more durable and strong it will be, the thinner the rope the lighter it will be.
