Protection

Protection

Trad climbing involves placing your own protection into cracks and pockets in the rockface. We have a huge range of both passive pro (Nuts, Hexes etc) and active pro(Cams, friends etc)to suit all users, budgets and situations. Check them out here

Camming Devices

Camming Devices

Cams and friends are techniaclly known as active protection devices, as in the event of a fall a mechanical action pushes cams outwards into the crack to increase the holding power. Cams are seriously useful and can offer protection in flared cracks, open pockets and offwidth fissures, where passive protection just wouldn't work. We stock a wide range of camming devices in a huge variety of sizes.

Hexes

Hexes

Nuts and Hexes provide 'passive protection'(no working parts)for rock climbing. They lock firmly into to cracks, pockets and fissures in the rock to provide safe anchors and runners to protect your climb. Basically, if placed correctly, they'll keep you from hitting the deck if you take a fall.

Pitons and Pegs

Pitons and Pegs

Essential for aid climbing, pegs and pitons are semi permanent protection hammered into cracks and fissures in the rock. Not normally seen much in the UK, due to the ethics of trad climbing and not leaving permanent pro, but widely used on the big walls of Europe and in the US.

Snow and Ice Pro

Snow and Ice Pro

Specialist protection devices designed to work in ice and snow. Ice screws offer the modern winter climber excellent levels of protection on steep ice, but on mixed ground you sometimes need to be a bit more creative and use a variety of protection designed use in for ice and snow, and often rock protection too.
