What a week!

This past week has felt more like June than March! Climbers Shop staff have been lucky enough to make the most of their days off and get to some cracking climbing spots,
such as the East Buttress of Scafell (visited twice by Bryan!) which is rare to be dry at this time of the year, Scafell North Crag, Grey Crag (Buttermere), Dow, Buckstone How and Raven Crag.
Between them all,  a great list of routes have been ticked off, here’s what has been climbed:

Buckstone How, Honister
  • Sinister Grooves (VS 4C)
  • Honister Wall (HS)
Good midgrade (VS-HVS) selection of routes. Slate-like rock which dries quickly, easy access.
Grey Crag, Buttermere
  • Harrow Buttress (D)
  • Slabs West Route (HS+)
  • Fortiter (MVS 4B)
  • Sauviter (S)
Great crag in a superb position and well worth the walk up to. Grey Crag features rock to die for! Loads to go out here.
East Buttress, Scafell

(Handy tip: The walk in from Seathwaite is much nicer, plus you don’t have to bother with the massive drive round to Wasdale – time wise there isn’t much in it!)
  • Mickledore Grooves (VS+ 4C)
  • Ichabod (E2 5C)
  • Great Eastern Route (VS- 4C)
One of the most impressive crags in the Lakes, a steep buttress with a lot to go at if you operate around the ‘E’ grade. Great Eastern Route being the easiest route on the crag, weaves it’s way through stunning ground.
North Crag, Scafell
  • Moss Ghyll Grooves (MVS 4C)
  • Central Buttress (E1 5B)
Another impressive crag with a lot of good routes, Moss Ghyll Grooves being one of the best, along with Central Buttress, a route with a lot of history behind it.
Dow Crag, Coniston
  • Leopards Crawl (HVS 5A)
  • Murrays Direct (VS 4C)
  • Pink Panther (E2 5C)
Fairly easy access crag, not as cold as what people perceive it to be up there, good sound rock, and great location. Lots to go at again.
Raven Crag, Langdale
  • Holly Tree Traverse (VD)
  • Variation of Pluto/Ordinary Route (VS/VD)
Ideal handy after work venue crag, full of popular routes, just don’t expect the rock to be as nice as what it is on the previous crags! Even better with a pub below!
