Congratulation to Stephen Wass for his winning entry into our Facebook ‘Brocken Spectre’ Photo Competition, and he will be receiving a £20 Climbers Shop Voucher as the prize.  Competition was tough though with loads of exceptional images of these mysterious mountain phenomena.  It was a very difficult job for us to decide on a winner.

Stephens entry was chosen as it showed the Spectre very clearly, the colours were strong, there is a rare double halo and it had the best definition of all the entries placed.

For those who’ve never experienced a Brocken Spectre or aren’t sure what one is, they are created when the sun from behind casts a ghostly shadow onto mountain mists or cloud and this is surrounded by a rainbow like circular halo, (or sometimes even a double halo).  It is a relatively rare occurrence, but when experienced in the mountains it is very special.

Many thanks to all who entered our competition and a montage of all of the photo entries is now gracing our Climbers Shop Facebook page
