Floods subsiding in the South Lakes

The severe flooding experienced throughout Cumbria in the past 48 hours is now starting to recede, although water levels in all of the local rivers remain very high.  Things are now returning to some sort of normality, although some local services are still disrupted and many local roads remain closed.  Thankfully, whilst the flooding has been bad around the Ambleside area, we haven't had the complete devastation experienced further north in Keswick, Cockermouth and Workington.  We really feel for all those that have lost property there and particularly for the family and friends of PC Bill Barker.

Ambleside town is mostly open for business, although the annual Lantern parade and the switching on of the Christmas lights, due to be held today, has been cancelled.

You can see some amazing images of the flooding in Ambleside at Ambleside online and of course we've also got some great pictures on our Facebook page too.

The Kendal Mountain Film Festival is reported to be running as normal this weekend, and Kendal town is mostly clear from flooding.

We are bracing ourselves for some more heavy rain here today and tomorrow, but hopefully the worst is now over.
