Ambleside Outdoor Festival Climbing Wall

On 16th – 19th of September, the first Ambleside Outdoor Festival will be held in our lovely home town, and the Climbers Shop will be heavily involved. But what would The Climbers Shop’s contribution be without an element of climbing included? Well, as part of our input to the festival, we have organised, in conjunction with Mammut, to play host to a climbing wall outside of the shop for the entire weekend!
Positioned in the end of Millans Park (next to the shop – see Streetview below), you will easily be able to pop out of our shop and test your skills on the artificial rock wall. As part of your experience you should get the opportunity to test out some of Mammut’s climbing gear, such as their rock shoes and ropes. The difficulty of the wall will vary, and you need not have any climbing experience at all to get involved. The staff at the wall will make sure you have everything you need and explain the activity and then the rest is up to you.
Maybe you’ve always fancied trying climbing or are a climbing guru and just want to show off! Come along and give it a go at some point. If, once having tried out the wall, you are completely caught up by the climbing bug, then we will have experts in the shop chat to and help you to make the right decision about what kit you should invest in to start climbing.
In addition to the gear experts on site, we will also have a genuine climbing expert at hand, in the form of British Lead Climbing Champion and Guinness Record Breaker, Drew Haigh. An ex-employee and friend of the shop, Drew has battled serious illness to become one of the best lead climbers in the UK and competes on a regular basis for the UK team, as well as running his own climbing accessory company. He’s an ever enthusiastic climber and natural show off so will be sure to entertain and inspire. Take a look at his climbing prowess on the video below.
