When my new Montane slipstream featherlight smock arrived in the post, I was like a kid at Christmas, but once I actually opened my ultra light and tiny package, I was quite honestly gobsmacked. This has to be the softest, lightest and most comfortable material I have ever come across in my life! First thoughts were that it must have been made by pixies, or woven by the legendary elves of Rivendell of JRR Tolkien fame, but hey, that is just me. Now, I’m not one of your running types, but I do like to take to my bike regularly. Having tried out some gear from the Climbers Shop before which kept me unbelievably dry and comfortable during a gruelling climb in Ambleside, I thought I’d invest in some outdoor clothes that would keep me dry – from sweat as well as rain on my bike. I can assure you, outdoor gear like this does the job to perfection and is worth every penny. Anyway, the Montane slipstream is made of Pertex Quantum, the lightest fabric Montane have ever made, any lighter and it’d be anti-gravity; the label claims that it is as soft as silk, personally I think it is softer; and it boasts the best strength to weight ratio – I guess only time will tell on that one, but I have no reason to think otherwise! What I do care about as a bit of a girl is that it looks good, and it is so small and light that I can even fit it in the tiniest bag I own, so will never be caught out by our beautiful British weather again!
