Eric Jones celebrated solo ascent of the Eiger North Face in 1984 for the first time on DVD. Filmed by Leo Dickinson
Dickinson follows Eric Jones on his climb from a helicopter vantage point, and is lowered onto Death Bivouvac to film Eric'c progress, but Jones is very much alone on the face throughout the expedition. The physical and mental toll on Jones is plain to see, and the tension of the climb pervades the entire film.
Eiger Solo also traces the tragic history of the deadly North face attempts, including the early pre-war expeditions that gave the mountain its terrible reputation. The climax of the film recreates John Harlin's 5000 ft fall during the 1966 winter ascent of the Eiger Direct.
