Climbing Gear - DMM Fly Climbing Axe
The DMM Fly Ice Axe is an excellent all round alpine and winter tool. Available as both a adze or hammer version, that are designed to be used together as a pair.
The Fly is not as aggressively styled as many modern axes, making it suitable for general mountaineering duties, as well as more vertical forays. The pick is T rated meaning that its tough enough to handle the mixed routes typically found in Scotland and the Alps. A replacement B rated cascade pick is also available for those wanting to scale vertical ice flows.
The Fly is a user friendly Ice tool that's well balanced and comfortable. The straight lower section of the shaft plunges easily into snow, while the curved upper section saves your knuckles from getting bashed and allows reachy placements over the top of ice cauliflowers or turfy bulges. The hammer isn't a toffee hammer either and is beefy enough to wallop a bulldog or warthog into frozen tough without any arguments.
