I bought a pair in early January and found them excellent for walking on snow and ice in Keswick and on footpaths. Delivery from the Climbers Shop was fast.

They should be issued to OAPs to save the NHS lots of money in winter. A bit stiff to pull on first time, but they work.

I bought them during the very icy spell in January- within a week the spikes at the heel were coming adrift. Very poor quality for the price. I have already returned them and am awaiting contact.

I ordered these slip-ons for occasional use in icy conditions and found them excellent. Attached to my Muck Boots they have been very effective in the recent cold spell. Service from Climbers Shop was first rate - arrived following day after online order.

I bought my mother a pair about three years ago and she swears by them. She is scared to death of falling. In this recent cold spell (they live in The Lakes) she was very confident on the ice and walked into Kendal and back last week - she clocked up 23 miles over the course of the week. Of course you wouldnt use them for winter climbing but I think for use in icy conditions they are ideal.

Brian, i would recommend you buy Kahtoola Microspikes. i bought these the other week, and they are fantastic for what you need them for.

Obviously, they should last a bit longer than 400 metres (you should see if the Climbers Shop staff will take them back, they're normally quite good like that) however you shouldnt use spikys for mountian use anyway. At the least you'll need microspikes and normally youll want crampons!

As I am getting on and had a bad fall I bought a pair and used for first time yestrday walking from carpark at work to my office (400 metres ) When I took them off two of the studs/points had dropped out. I wouldnt recommend them for anything safety critical like up a mountain.
