A seriously impressive, mountain focused jacket in the new 3 Layer GORE-TEX Pro. Weathertight and super breathable (upto 28% more breathable than the previous Goretex Pro Shell fabrics) the Changabang is both lightweight and ultra durable. It features a built in snow skirt, making it the ideal companion for blizzard battererd winter pitches in Scotland or the deep freeze of winter Alpinism.

The Changabang has long been a favourite with serious users and is fully featured for year round climbing, mountaineering and snowsports.  It has a fully adjustable helmet compatible hood with a wired peak, as well as a zipped arm pocket, ideal for taking a Recco avalanche reflector or electronic ski pass.

The jacket is a little longer cut than many jackets, yet still allows for unencumbered movement when wearing a climbing harness.  The integral snow skirt is removeable and deep pit zips allow effortless ventilation on the move, although due to the inherent breathability of the superb 3 layer GORE-TEX Pro Shell ascendor fabric these will be only needed in warm conditions.

    • Mountain Equipment Changabang Jacket Review

      By Tom on 5
Ordered this 11:15 on Friday Dec 19 worried that it may not arrive before I jet off skiing on 31 Dec due to time of year - it arrived next day Saturday 20 Dec! Top effort. Bought the ME changabang to replace my North Face Tri-climate, for skiing (has powder skirt) and also for a Kili trek in October. Have just used for skiing in Norway, with no real complaints (used the inner from North Face tri-c as a mid layer which seemed to work well). Sleeve length is fine on me although I have read reviews elsewhere that say they are too long (my arm is c.60 cm from armpit to bottom of wrist). Good for skiing as has a powder skirt, but no arm pocket so lift pass cannot be conveniently placed which was a little annoying - but then I presume there is performance / weight issues with having an arm pocket. Decent arm movement whilst poling etc. Hood seems okay and goes over ski helmet, with great drawstring mechanism to tighten, although didnt use it much as no active snow fall. Only complaint is that the taped seem on the right hand side breast was glued down with a pinch in the material so is not flat - if I had seen that on the item in a shop I would not have bought this one as, although it wont harm performance, it looks messy (especially for a £400 RRP item - I want perfection). I have brand affinity with ME, after a few years boycotting following decision to outsource manufacture to China, and still find their kit to be of decent quality. Would recommend as a shell for skiing - I think red looks ace on the slopes too. Hopefully it will work well for October climb. Cannot comment on wet weather performance as it hasnt been tested.
YES Tom would recommend this item
