Have found them very effective on boots in Scottish mountains, eg in Knoydart and Torridon. Very useful when backpacking as so light.

As a senior citizen working as a volunteer ranger in a National Trust property I was today able, for the first time, to wear these spikes on paths covered in sheet ice.As I have had a hip and knee replaced I have always had to be very cautious in such conditions but today I was able to walk with complete confidence as the spikes gave me firm footing even on steep slopes. I am delighted with my purchase.

These are ideal for icy sections – which to my mind are the most dangerous when walking in the hills and for snow as well, but I will have to experiment with these to see what will be the limits of them.
These would have been very useful for me when I tried to get up a path on Pen-y-ghent in late November a couple of years back. Sheet ice all the way up and even trying to walk off the path, the grass was covered in ice, where the cold night before had frozen a myriad of streams coming down the hillside. I am amazed that I didn’t break my neck.
The micro spikes linked by chain and weighing 180g each or 360 a pair (medium size) are attached to flexible rubber which stretches easily over boots or trail shoes. They are easy to put on while standing up and need minimal adjustment to fit correctly. I fitted them both to my Scarpa’s and Terrocs.
After a -10C night it was not unsurprising that the roads and paths in our village were sheet ice. I set off to the village shop, a 2 mile round trip, using the Kahtoola microspikes. First outing with these. Within a few minutes, I declared these brilliant, the spikes grip ice superbly, so much so I could run on ice with complete safety !
Several trips last winter in the hills have proved these invaluable for tackling ice and light snow as well as using them for walking on icy paved areas.
If you want to see more look at my post at http://markswalkingblog.wordpress.com/2010/11/13/kahtoola-microspikes-a-first-look/

Had my eye on these since last winter (2009) and decided to buy once the snow arrived in Nov (2010). They are phenomenal! Bought them primarily for running - great in snow and sheet ice - but also used them for walking. So impressed, that I ended up buying another pair for my wife (she thought they were brill) and my Dad bought a pair too and wore them almost constantly during the prolonged winter snap.

I bought the Kathoola Microspike as a gift for my partner who does not feel confident when walking on ice \ hard packed snow. These spikes were absolutely superb and gave her the confidence that she lacked to walk in snow terrain of north wales moelwyns mountains. They alos proved invaluable just to get around nearer to home. They are small compact and lightweight so can easily be carried when not required. The service given by the climbers shop was excellent with item arriving the next day after ordering.Despite poor weather conditions. I am still waiting for another company to supply goods ordered in Dec 2010 who are still blaming the weather.

Bought kahtoola microspikes this winter and they were brilliant for walking on the ice on our holiday in Moffatt..used them to get to the pub on frozen pavements and on a couple of long walks. They are easy to put on and stay put, giving you complete confidence. We tried petzyl spiky plus last winter and although they did give you good grip, they were awkward to put on, then they kept slipping off our boots and we lost several spikes, maybe ok for short pavement walks but the kahtoolas were far better and definitely worth the extra money.

Absolutely perfect.
my town was a sheer sheet of ice for over 3 months this winter. and everyone slipping , sliding and falling over. i am a fast walker by nature and these were simply PERFECT didnt lose traction once. i used them for walking the dog and i was for ever getting stopped by members of the public asking about them , getting stopped by other dog walkers and some people out skiing. the grip is amazing even on perfectly smooth polished ice, not great for wildlife photography though they cause to much noise in quiet woods on the ice as it cracks.
£45 is a perfect price for them and should last more than long enough to pay for them selves.
hope to get a pair for mum who has brittle bone disease so falls are not great for her.

Snow arrived Nov 27 & quickly became ice. It has not yet fully gone and over this period I would have been confined to house without my Kahtoola spikes. Not exactly cheap at £45 but worth every penny! Compared with most others, they are like comparing a professional with an amateur. Have recommended them to all my family and do the same for anyone else without reservation! Oh, and by the way, they were delivered within 2 days without further charge, when everything else in the country was stuck in snow. Well done "The Climbers Shop" for superb service!

My Mrs was running about on inch think ice ouside the house at Chritmas (it takes all sorts) without any problems - if these winters keep up well all need them even for walking about on the pavements.

I bought these in late December and had a chance to try them out before the snow went. I went for a walk over the downs here in Hampshire where the snow was compacted to ice on the footpaths. Even with good walking boots I was slipping all over the place but with these I could walk confidently as if the ice did not exist. In fact, there was one very steep slope which I would normally descend cautiously in good summer weather - with these I just walked straight down. They are brilliant. They were great on pavements too; although the roads cleared after a few days the deep snow on the pavements became compacted and very dangerous, especially at the end of peoples drives. Highly recommended.

These are brilliant! Comfortable and solid on ice and snow. Walking on a short bit of tarmac road is fine too. If you dont really feel you need proper climbing crampons and expensive stiff boots - these are fine for short icy bits in hills and mountains. Dont go walking in the hills in winter without them. If you know that the mountains are an ice sheet of icy slopes, then you need crampons. Worth every penny!

These are brilliant, during bad weather Jan/Feb 2010, I had to change my dog walking route due to hard packed ice which was impossible to walk on. This winter I bought Microspikes, I had seen a fell runner using them when I was hillwalking on Beinn Eunaich, after the first snow Nov 2010, so decided to buy a pair. They are excellent on packed snow and ice on pavements and paths; also easy to put on and take off. They are also handy to take hill walking when only patches of ice are present, BUT should never be used when crampons are required.

These are excellent as the other reviewers have said. I bought them for winter walking and to get around on the sheet ice that forms from the snow around my home after snow fall. This year I have not slipped over. One issue for me (GB shoe size 6.5) was what size to buy. I went for small which fits my normal shoes OK and stretches (a bit tightly) to size 7 boots.

I have since brought another pair for my dad who lives on a hill and has to clear his drive from snow every year to maintain normal living, he says they are the best present i have ever brought him and now looks foreword to every winter just so he can play in them. he has had many of funny moments watching his neighbours come sliding down the hill past him ! I know you shouldnt laugh, but you cant help feeling a bit smug while wearing a pair!

Bought a pair just prior to the recent cold spell to use for a wild camping and walking trip around the Kinder plateau and Bleaklow. Worked superbly! Excellent grip in frozen icy and snowy conditions. On my return I ordered another pair for my wife. We have both been using them on walking trips and to/from work in the snowy and icy conditions. Fits our boots, trail shoes and work shoes.
Expensive but worth every penny. Better than slipping around and breaking something...

She thought that it was a bit ove the top wearing spikes around the town UNITL she wore them the first time. Now she is looking forward to the next bad weather, the spike are a constant companion. I would recommend these above any of the others on the market. quality shines through, a top item for anyone who needs to walk in slippy conditions. Excellent item 100%

having owned a pair for over a year and using them to good effect in the lake district i bought all my staff at work a pair just in time for the december snow and ice. working in a quarry is a dangerous job but with compact snow and ice it is lethal. not one of my staff has slipped or fallen in our last cold spell. they are worth their weight in gold.the lads even used them after work to get to and from the pub safely, now theres a reason to have a pair if i ever heard one.

The Micro Spikes are by far the most versatile bit of kit you can have in the Winter Time. They are fitted to boots / shoes in a matter of seconds, and the grip you get is phenomeonal. Everyone looks and stares, as you walk confidently past whilst they perform the Olympic Ballet act gingerly risking life and limb with basic footwear. Short of Full Crampons, and Ice Axe these simply get you moving in safety

Excellent piece of kit. Very good on ice even at an angle. A friend borrowed mine and used them to walk up Helvellyn (not striding edge) during the snow/ice we had a xmas. He made it without difficulty. I noticed that there were quite a lot of people wearing the microspikes. They are also just as good for icy pavements and are so easy to put on/off they can be used for shopping. I would definitely recommend them !

These things are great, not flimsy like a lot of similar products out there, and they really grip. Seem very durable. Reckon they will last me many years. I have some stablicers and these weigh far less, grip better and dont feel as weird to walk in as there isnt the extra sole. Will they last as long.. I doult it but time will tell.

I bought these after having them recommended to me my members of the Southport Fell Walking Club. They came immediately and just in time as the snow and ice hit Merseyside. I havent worn them on a "proper" ramble yet, but have used them in my local area, to get me to the shops etc and think theyre fantastic. Im always nervous on ice, but feel really confident in these. They fit well and are easy to get on and off. Thanks.
