About Zap-o-Mat Belay Device The Zap-o-mat is a semi self-locking belay device i.e the braking hand must be on the rope at all times. Considerably lighter than a Petzl Gri-Gri at only 158g, the Zap-o-mat features an adjustable tension spring in its handle to adjust for different sports climbing scenarios and various rope thicknesses.
Push the green spring loaded button in and the rope can be paid out easily for onsighting or red-point attempts
Release the spring by pushing the button on the bottom side of the handle and the central bolt moves more freely, allowing the Zap-O-Mat to respond positively and block quicker, great for working routes or if the belayer is lighter than the lead.
For lowering, the integrated karabiner arrester prevents the unit from being pushed to far thus increasing the braking power.
