The round bar helps the rope run more smoothly and can be used with a Italian hitch, allowing it to double as a belay or abseil device in its own right – useful if you drop your belay device.
the Synergy's gate uses 7075 alloy which is the same as the biner body and is super strong. This means unlike many other biners the gate is the same strength if pushed inwards as pulled outwards. This is not a requirement for the CE test but it is something that Wild Country have insisted on. The Synergy is almost over engineered for strength and reliability.
