The Grivel Air Tech Evolution retains the proven, one piece, hot forged steel AIR TECH head and combines it with an ergonomic, lightweight curved shaft. The 08 model also features a new, plastic contoured hand grip which won't ruin your expensive winter climbing gloves as the old 'sandpaper' grip used to.
It is a highly versatile axe which is equalliy at home on big alpine grand courses, winter mountaineering in the Scottish highlands or gully climbing in the Lake District.
The angled shaft means plunging into snow slopes is more comfortable, it allows knuckle clearance on steeper snow and ice and fits better when stashing the axe between your back and rucksack.
Although this is not a fully fledged 'technical climbing tool', the Air Tech Evo axe can be teamed up with the Air Tech Evo Hammer to make a pair of climbing tools for easier grade snow and ice routes.
